Professional language course B2 (400 or 500 teaching hours)

The B2 professional language courses consist of either 400 or 500 teaching hours. Colón offers the courses as in-person classes or online. See current dates below!

The B2-400/B2-500 basic modules teach German skills that you generally need in the professional world. Topics include, among others: – Vocabulary and idiomatic expressions – Grammar – Writing professional emails and letters – Understanding written texts such as work instructions or operating manuals – Job interviews or employment contracts

You will learn to communicate with colleagues, customers and superiors. Both modules (B2 and C1) can be taken individually or consecutively. They build on each other. Many of these skills will also be useful in your private life. This will prepare you optimally for starting your career.

Times / Class size The job-related German language courses at Colón are held as intensive courses from Monday to Friday, either from 08:50–13:00 or from 13:30–17:45 (in-person classes). The times for online courses may differ – see current dates! Class size: 15–20 participants per class (maximum 25!). Duration Basic module B2: 400 teaching hours (45 min. each) – approx. 4–5 months 500 teaching hours (45 min. each) – approx. 5–6 months

Certificate / TELC certificate All DeuFöV B2 courses at Colón conclude with a language exam: Deutsch-Test für den Beruf (DTB) by telc. Basic module B2: telc DTB language exam

Placement / Registration: To register, you will need: – a valid authorization to participate in a professional language course – a B1 certificate (not older than 6 months from the date of issue) – an appointment for registration (with a valid B1 certificate or a placement test result from Colón)

If your B1 certificate is older than 6 months, you will need to take a placement test at Colón. You can only arrange an appointment for this placement test by email (e.linasari@colon.de). Unfortunately, it is not possible to arrange a placement test by phone. Placement tests always take place on Tuesdays after the appointment has been scheduled.

Registration (with a B1 certificate or placement test result from Colón) is only possible in person and no earlier than 4 weeks before the course starts. You will also need an appointment for registration. You can only arrange this by email (e.linasari@colon.de or f.rush@colon.de). Reservations are not permitted. We allocate the appointments approximately 6 weeks before the course starts. Please send your request by email to: e.linasari@colon.de or f.rush@colon.de.

Please understand that there are only a limited number of places available and we cannot always accommodate all interested participants.

Course fees / Teaching materials Professional language courses are fully or partially funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). Participation is free of charge for you if you have an authorization voucher with cost exemption. We use modern teaching materials, which Colón provides for you; textbooks are included in the course fee!

Course dates Q2 2026 (April, May, June 2026): We currently do not offer any online B2 professional language courses! Our office for registration is located at Colonnaden 96, 20354 Hamburg, in the bookshop!

The schools offering these professional language courses/DeuFöV cannot set the courses themselves. We plan the professional language courses together with the BAMF. We always plan for three months. The German government has decided that there will be temporary restrictions from January 2025. There are fewer B2 professional language courses than usual.
